HANDS FOR COMPASSION: A FILM OF THE DALAI LAMA'S HEALING ADDRESS
http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108/saynitso/hands4compassion2.jpg
If I may,  first let me tell you a bit about a
documentary  http://www.linktv.org/programs/hands that three friends, Katherine Romano, Darrell Geist
and Jane Sheaffer, and myself made of the Dalai Lama giving a Healing Address on 9/11 in 2005, the Fifth Aniversary. You can see a trailer of it here (where His Holiness talks about losing his temper, getting mad, and how to practically practice Compassion, to avoid that situation, when possible.)
Because the site is listed on LINK TV's
site, with ZAADS as the source of contact for that film, I must make this a little background info spot for that film.
the crew
Simone Ellis Producer, Sound Engineer, Co-Editor; Katherine Romano, Co-Producer, Editor,  First Camera; Darrel Geist Second Camera, stills, roaming shots; Jane Sheaffer, First still photographer, and fearless driver. Second photographer, domonice arizona. Music by Ani Tsering Wango, CD's available through Ewam www.ewam.org, or 406-726-0217.
    The film is titled “Hands
for Compassion,” and it is a document of a powerful talk by His Holiness the
14th Dalai Lama on the anniversary of 9/11 in 2005. Katrina had just happened
and the Dalai Lama took the occasion to talk about “Natural Disasters” as well
as the “Man Made Disaster” of 9/11. He predicts that we will see more of the
first with the reality of global warming, and talks in detail about the
techniques of achieving “calm mind” as an individual, which will – he insists–
go farther than most of us believe, in preventing further disasters of the
second order.
He speaks about the gap between rich and poor and the
importance of love in our lives. During the introduction, by his host Kiril
Sokoloff, the audience was asked to raise their hands if they were willing to
commit to a life of compassion from that moment forward.
The Dalai Lama refers to this “vow” on 10,000 people's part, and chuckles often
at the idea that one can become more compassionate simply by raising one's hand.
Then he goes on to tell us how to accomplish a more compassionate lifestyle, a
less combative and healthier way of living.
You can see the film on LINK
TV  and their affiliates– ck. out this link for a short–
http://www.linktv.org/programs/hands. You can also order a copy of this
version– 1 hour long– or the complete version – 1.5 hrs– from United
Independent Journalists International by writing to saynitso@bresnan.net, or me,
Simone Ellis at 124 Turner Ct. #2, Missoula, Mt  59802– phone # 406-721-4964,
or cell phone #505-629-9147. The DVD is free – at the request of His Holiness's
office– but a fee of $5.80 for shipping and handling will be applicable.

Many blessings! May your life be more compassionate from this day forth– http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r108/saynitso/PrayerWheelGeist.jpg
including compassion towards one's
self.

Now–
on to my impermanent personal profile:

I was  born a writer and followed through, though it can be a long, isolating road at times, I have no other choice… it is my destiny. Found great lovers and great mentors along the way – and am admittedly political to the bone. Ask me and I'll tell you about my mentors (and sometimes lovers)– Corso, Ginsberg, Burroughs, DiPrima, Waldman, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche– from the early days of Naropa Institute in Boulder Colorado. Not to mention the wonderful film-maker teachers at San Francisco Art Institute where I eventually earned a degree in film.
Today my teacher is Tulku Gochen Sang-ngak Rinpoche, and many “un-famous” heros– as well as of course, my ultimate Hero Man, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama (HHDL), who would love to be “un-famous”  even for a day!
I've covered him for 16 years, as a print and film journalist.. what a blessing. And finally got to see him at Radio City Music Hall for three days of Teachings, instead of media work.
Though it is seemingly sentimental. I must say…. Zaadz is good for these deeply spiritual feelings as they come through we New World voices…….I love him more every year that I am blessed enough to cover him.. BYTHEAY:  keep posted here for some brand new releases of the Dalai Lama talking about Nuclear Waste being dumped in Tibet.. And his suspicions that the Atomic Bomb is being manufactured by the Chinese are  INSIDE OLD TIBET— keep this info chill… so we don't run into problems.

Most importantly though is that it is NEW Tibet with it's 3-2  Chinese to Tibetan, popluation–Tibet that is now part of China– is exactly where the Dalai Lama very much wants to return . Just as a citizen.. retired. Not the Political Head.
I believe he wants to take some of that massive Western money (which has helped the Tibetan refuges inomously! but HHDL points out that the Tibetans in Tibet are now the one really suffering) and return to Tibet. In Tibet he could help that sad situation with a lot with the money raised by Gere and Susan Sarandan and Speilberg, Lucas,  and Nacy Pelosi, to name just a few. It could happen.

Any ideas, you have, about how we could help via the Internt, dear reader, please let know…. here.

Oh and please remember that the Congressional Medal, was givin by CONGRESS not Bush, who came along for the ride. Who wouldn't? It's the Dalai Lama. He is great fun.. and DEEP.
Maybe we on Zaadz can do something to help him go home.
Ck. back here for updates on ideas about how we might do that.. and links to the newly released HHDL material.

back to my profile story, since that's what Zaadz is about and great at providing!

After nearly a decade on the ground floor at Naropa, I punked out and struck out on my own, New York, Paris, San Franciso, British Columbia… all living situations, not just visiting… and  eventually coming back to the vast American West, first for a decade in Santa Fe and then up to Montana, near to where I originated – was born in Jackson, Wyoming and spent my adolecence in Western Colorado– The West is my heart and soul… but now I'm moving to Brooklyn… YES!!! more about that later… moving in late May.

So looking back, helping found Naropa Institute (though I didn't know it at the time, certainly Trungpa Rinpoche and his students knew it would be the founding of a major spritual institute.. and it is.)
I  worked for Allen Ginsberg and Co., for nearly 10 years and taught writing there…. among many other endevors… mostly crazed social experiments… smilePhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Met a buddhist monk at age 16 in Telluride, CO. and then, Trungpa Rinpoche in '72. Have been a rather secretive Buddhist ever since. Until the making of the latest Dalai Lama film..there are two more, one in rough cut very political, the other on Dharma and Interfaith.

oh, back to the profile:  I lived in the bush in British Columbia for three years in the 80's. Got sober. Taught writing on a remote Indian reservation.

Moved to Santa Fe. Was the head art Critic there (yuck hate that term!) for nearly a decade. Did performance art and film– still do.

Lived in Santa Fe and was the chief art critic for the daily paper for almost a decade. Published a book about southwestern painting. You can find the book– it has sold 100's of 1,000's of copies… and I signed a bad contract so have next to nil from it.. live and learn, eh? Nevertheless, it is a pride a joy.. like a child.

online at  Amazon. Would love to hear your thoughts about Southwestern Art! It is a subject I never am tired enough to not find great inspiration from.

Finally moved to Montana.
    Got sick…
    Got well finally
Made the Dalai Lama film with uiji.

Found my current teacher, Tulku Gochen Sang-ngag Rinpoche founder of Ewam Sangha worldwide.

Write about art for my living and hang with my coyote dog in the Wild West. Playing with fiction. Moving to NYC after this winter is over! and my memoir is done.
but for now I am in cyberspace and Montana. And I would like to meet as many folks on here as possible, because I can feel the vibes of positivity more every day from this “portal” on our consciousness, and our Buddha Nature– higher power or higher spirit – whatever you've come to call that ever hopeful, expanding part of ourselves, which we've come here to share. And this vibe is telling me that this is the way we will change the world!!

(oh and just a little PS– though I'm a writer by trade, I'm sometimes a really lousy speller, so bare bear barr with me, okay?)

Just for kicks, my neighbor got me to set up a myspace (after I'd found zaadz,) and though I really prefer the atmosphere and in general, the people, in zaadz, I still invite you to  my myspace site– it has a little movie on it with animated footage that I took in film school and shows my goofey side– http://www.myspace.com/saynitso

My all your wishes come true and may your days be filled with compassion, truth and warmth of heart.
sincerely,
simone
